Why is chapter 24 in "Because of Winn-Dixie" considered the climax of the story? What happened in this chapter that is so important to Opal's journey? Please use text evidence to support your ideas.
I think chapter 24 was the the climax for Opal because in the chapter Opal started to think she that she might not see Winn-Dixie again and the Preacher does not think they will see Opals mom again .
How do you think the preacher's response to Opal's outburst about his responsibility for her mama leaving them impact her or change her view of her dad?
The climax is that Opal misses her mama and Win Dixie more then ever. I think this because Opal says in her mind ten things she knows about Winn Dixie that she could write on a big old poster so Winn Dixie will not get lost. She cried so much for Winn Dixie and her Mama. The preacher and Opal missed Opal's mama. Opal really missed Winn Dixie and Mama more then anything.
Very interesting point Jessica! We never got to see how Opal reacted immediately after her mom left. We only got to see how she was dealing with it years later. I wonder if the way she is reacting with the loss of Winn-Dixie is similar to how she reacted to the loss of her mama.
I think chapter 24 is the climax because Opal is thinking of someone she already lost (Her mama). Right now,she lost someone else (Her dog Winn-Dixie).
I agree. In this moment she lost one of her most important friends who has helped her through her move to Naomi and helped her meet new friends. This is going to be another tragic loss for her if they do not find Winn-Dixie. I wonder how that loss will affect her.
I think chapter 24 is the climax of the story because Opal lost Winn-Dixie and Opal's father (The Preacher) started opening up to Opal. I think this is important because Opal's father not listening to Opal was one of Opal's biggest problems and Winn-Dixie was one of the most important things in Opal's life.
I completely agree! How quickly she responded with the question about his response to her mama leaving!!! Makes you realize that he is suffering just as much as she is, but holding it in all these years! Do you think their relationship will change going forward?
I think chapter 4 is the climax because she has to many living things to worry about.( Like Winn-Dixie and her mama. witch makes her sad but she tries to go on in life.
She does have many things in life to worry about! Wonder if this was how she responded immediately after her mama left or was she too young to really understand. Do you think she will be stronger because of all this loss?
I think chapter 24 was the climax because Opal lost her best friend which is Winn-Dixie, and she already lost her mama. Those are two very important people in her life.
