Halloween Entry

I am going to write a "spooky" or "funny" Halloween entry but I need your help! If you can start my piece off with a LEAD that will grasp the reader's attention, I will finish it! Think about all the creative ways you could begin your piece. Some interesting ways to begin the entry would be:

  • Describe the setting
  • Start with dialogue
  • Begin in the moment - action
  • Use sound words
  • Show not tell what you may be feeling, hearing, seeing, smelling, tasting, etc.
**The story has to be a realistic story. It cannot be completely made up with events that could NOT possibly happen. For example: we could not have a witch that is flying a broom throughout the town of Spookville, because we know that in real life witches do not fly. :)

    I was at a very spooky looking haunted house. There were clowns, witches, ghosts and goblins popping out at you every second. There were even tarantula's!

      Okay the tarantula's got me!!! In your lead maybe if you could add a bit more details on how it felt while you were there. Were you scared? Did you scream? Did you hear anything else? Good start!

    The Haunted House
    It was dark,there were people dressed up trying to scare you. Suddenly the door shut by itself and a scary voice said "YOU WILL NOT GET OUT" my hart was pounding.

    "Come on guys!" "Hurry!" This felt like the scariest moment in my life. "I don't want to miss it!" It was dark and I was with my friends about to go in the scariest haunted house ever! I smelled the smoke coming out. I heard people screaming. I was totally ready.

    Ooh! It was a very spooky night on Halloween! I was walking with my friends, my mom, and my sister through the darkness! I was an Indian princess for Halloween!

    Boo! A ghost popped out of nowhere and scared the heck out of me. Then I quickly got my candy and ran.

    “Mom! Can we do the spider webs?” I asked. I couldn’t wait to do the spider webs.

    “Five more minutes. Is that okay?”

    I was counting down in my head. Five minutes, four minutes, three minutes, two minutes…I couldn’t wait another second.

    “Okay, I’m ready”, mommy said

    This is how you decorate with spider webs:
    • Tear open the bag of spider webs.
    • Tear off a chunk of web.
    • Begin to stretch out the chunk of web and wrap it around a tree, over a bush or even on your house.
    • Continue to stretch out the piece of web until there are no more large chunks.

    After I was finished decorating my yard, I was even decorated myself with webs! Have a spooktacular Halloween!

    It was a dark night and kids were running around outside in the neighborhood with loads of candy. It was windy and the leaves flying around looked like ghosts in the sky. My friends and I were giving out the candy in my house but we ran out. As we were trying to get more candy, the kids were banging on our door and screaming, "Let us in! We want candy!" It was so funny I was laughing like a witch. HA ha HA ha!

    One night on a spooky halloween, I was walking outside my house when I came upon a spooky vampire begging for treats. I pointed at the bowl sitting on the doorstep and set of to trick-or-treat.

    It was dark when kids saw a mysterious person who looked like a ghost. all the kids ran up and down the streets.when they saw more ghost.

    It was a dark Halloween night with a full moon. I was trick or treating with my friend Lexi on the scariest block in Scarsdale. I turned to Lexi and said "are you sure you know where you are going"? She said "yes". We went to scary house with cobwebs and graveyards and it was scary and small and dark. We knocked on the door and a person dressed as a mummy opened the door. We screamed and ran away.

    "Lets go to the haunted house.' It was so scary I was shivering with fear as I looked at the very scary house. I stepped in and "Boo!" A person came out.
