Thursday March 17, 2016: What phase is the moon in?

If you visit the website Moon Rise and Set Times you will be able to view the rise and set times of the moon for each day.

Today's moonrise will be at 12:47 pm. The moon will set the following morning at 3:12 a.m.

Make sure you include in your post:


  • The time of day/night you made your observation
  • Conditions of the sky (partly cloudy, overcast, clear, foggy, etc.)
  • Any additional observations and details you find important

  1. I looked outside at 3:46 and saw the moon. It was a waxing gibbous. The sky was wierd because one minute it was cloudy [really cloudy] and the next minute it was clear. When a cloud went over the moon the moon looked part of the cloud.

  2. Today is March 17, 2016 at 7:16pm. It is a partly cloudy day but I can see the moon. It is in a first quarter phase.

  5. Today is March 17 at 8:53 pm. I went outside and I saw the moon. I think it was in the Waning Crescent.

  6. Today is 3/17/16 at 8:24 pm. When I looked outside I couldn't see the moon because it was another cloudy day. The moon is in the waxing gibbous phase.

  10. at 9:00 am today i looked outside to see the moon and i could not see it. although I knew it was in the Waxing gibbous phase. The sky was really sunny and clear.
